MIDDLETOWN — The Mid-Hudson Area Retired Teachers Association (MARTA) brought some holiday cheer to multiple organizations through Community Service Projects they conducted during the holidays.
Holiday cards were prepared with personal greetings for veterans along with blankets collected for Project Linus. The blankets were created by MARTA members, who used their creativity to knit, crochet and sew blankets to be given to seriously ill and traumatized children newborn to18 years in local hospitals, shelters and social service agencies.
Multiple bags of non-perishable food and monetary donations were collected for the HONORS EHG, and for Pets Alive.
Over 40 wrapped gifts of children’s clothing were donated and delivered to Cornell Cooperative’s Relatives as Parents Program, a support group for grandparents and relatives who are providing primary care for relative children.
Beautiful handmade crafts created by board members were raffled and raised $300 toward the MARTA Scholarship Fund. Four scholarships will be awarded from the MARTA Scholarship Fund in April to local graduating seniors who are pursuing a degree in the field of Education.
