Here’s the scenario: You have a bunch of vegetables and aren’t sure what to do with them. You don’t have the energy or brain space to make anything remotely complicated. This is what you do: Just roast them to hit that sweet spot. It’s an easy method, and you’ll get lightly browned, crispy-skinned vegetables with tender, honeyed flesh within. Raw vegetables can taste bitter, especially to people who aren’t totally sold on eating them (such as kids or grown-up kids). Roasting vegetables mellows the flavor, says registered dietician Susan Bowerman on Discover Good Nutrition. She’s the director of nutrition training at weight-management company Herbalife and a board-certified specialist in sports dietetics. “Roasting is one of my favorite ways to cook vegetables—especially carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, and Brussels sprouts,” Bowerman says. “The dry heat of the oven caramelizes the natural sugars in vegetables, which brings about an amazing depth of flavor. And, it’s super easy.” Dry-heat cooking, either by roasting or frying, helps release the natural sugars in vegetables. This caramelization is a non-enzymic browning reaction that happens when there is no water and sugars break ...

Council Post: Power Of The Four Ps: A Formula For Achieving Your Career Goals

Over the years, I’ve developed my own disciplinary pillars, a set of steps that have helped me tremendously throughout my career. I wasn’t raised in a business-minded household and didn’t graduate from business school, so I had to cultivate my own set of tools to be able to make it in this world. The way I see it, life is a series of opportunities to learn from. And we learn equally from both our failures and our successes. When I was a young man, I took a job in a boiler-type salesroom and was instructed I needed to follow a sales script. I told them that it didn’t feel natural to me, but they insisted and I followed their script. I was fired at the end of that day, not surprisingly because I didn’t close any deals. That experience turned out to be one of my most defining moments. I swore to never again read from a script. And in my next few jobs, I was the top salesperson, working half the hours the rest of the team worked and usually closing twice the sales. That is when I started to develop these steps. They don’t only work in sales but in any career or craft you are in. Of course, these steps don’t include the path it takes to choose a career or the dedication it take...

The Birmingham house of horrors for sale at auction for £1

Buyers often point to high house prices as a major obstacle to purchasing a new home – but there is no such excuse with this three-bedroom house in Birmingham as it’s for sale with a price tag starting at a mere £1. They will, however, need some extensive elbow grease – and a considerable renovation fund – as it requires a complete overhaul, with issues ranging from holes in the roof, to a smashed up bathroom and broken toilet. MailOnline Property was given an exclusive look at the terrace home, which was described by the estate agent SDL Auctions Bigwood as ‘a horror of a property’. Hammer time! The ‘house of horrors’ in Birmingham is being sold at auction next month by SDL Bigwood Auctions From the outside, it looks like any other ordinary terrace house in the street called Douglas Road – albeit a little tired. There is a trimmed hedge, a bay window and a gable porch – and even a lucky horseshoe above the front door. But step inside and it is anything but typical of the other properties in the same road. The house, which is being sold at auction, also comes with plaster that’s fallen off the walls, heaps of othe...

WVC trio, Team USA fall to Canada in Pan Am Games field hockey semifinals

Canada shut down the high-scoring Team USA lineup Tuesday night to post a 2-0 victory in a Pan American Games women’s field hockey semifinal in Lima, Peru. The United States had outscored opponents 21-2 while winning its first four games. Danielle Grega from Wyoming Valley West had four of those goals, tied for second-most on the team, while captain Kathleen Sharkey from Wyoming Seminary had three. Grega and Sharkey were again in the starting lineup and were involved in some of the best U.S. scoring opportunities. The United States fell one win short of its third straight Pan Am finals appearance and two wins shy of locking up a 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games berth. Jacob Baltrusaitis scored three first-quarter touchdowns Friday night to send host Tunkhannock on its way to a 63-26 rout of winless Towanda and the first four-win season by the Tigers in more than a decade. Tunkhannock opened a 21-0 lead after one quarter on the way to 579 yards total offense while winning for the fourth time in five games to improve to 4-2 on the season. Baltrusaitis scored two of his first-quarter touchdowns on passes from Jack Chilson, who had four touchdown passes by halftime and finished 13-for-21 fo...

Bosch Track Saw with Plunge Action GKT13-225L Review

The Robert Bosch Tool Corporation in North America was formed in January 2003. Sixteen years later the first Bosch track saw hit North America. While the GKT 55 GCE track saw has been available in Europe for many years, they’re coming a little late to this party. Now, in a market with sharp competition and a slightly higher price tag, the GKT13-225L will need to prove its worth. Fortunately for Bosch, this carpentry tool delivers a truckload of smart and useful features aimed at Pros, plus the quality of German engineering that all make it worth the wait. While corded saws may not get as much attention as cordless saws, this one deserves yours. Well, it was a long wait, but I think we benefited greatly from the GKT 55 GCE pedigree and its field service in Europe. The Bosch track saw is an excellent saw that produces repeatable, reliable, high-quality results across many applications. The only question left to ask is when will we see the cordless version? SUPPORT OUR ADVERTISERSgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-1389975325257-0′); }); For the uninitiated, let me walk you through the basic concept of a track saw. People and cultures, like the arts, traditions and cuisine born of those cultures, come in all

People and cultures, like the arts, traditions and cuisine born of those cultures, come in all flavors, and so do cars. The great thing about global trade is that we have choice in nearly everything we buy. Few, if any, people are forced to purchase a product because no alternatives built by rival companies exist. And, because we’re not living under the thumb of an oppressive apparatus that demands us proles buy dismal crapboxes from a sole state-owned factory, our driveway diversity is off the charts. Maybe yours tops them all. Sure, there’s some notable absences. All Chinese-brand cars, for instance. Brands like Seat and Skoda and Holden and Opel and Daihatsu and the PSA Group lineup (for now), Hindustan, and vehicles built at AvtoVAZ factories in Russia. There’s plenty of vehicular nationalities we can’t get our hands on. Old rarities sometimes float across the oceans, and a person’s advanced age (or globe-trotting career) can mean a now-unattainable brand once passed into their ownership, either here or abroad. Sadly, your author can’t claim a diverse ownership history of various auto nationalities. Nope, just two countries: America and Japan. No Germans, no Italians, no Swe...

TheDrive and its partners may earn a commission if you purchase a product through one of our links. Read more. Suppose you want to carry fresh food in your vehicle; it’s crucial to keep it stored in a cool environment with a controlled temperature. A 12-volt cooler is a portable refrigerator that can get the job done. However, searching for the best 12-volt cooler is not a walk in the park. So, we’ve done our homework to give you an idea of the best coolers available.  The design of a 12-volt compressor refrigerator is similar to a typical home refrigerator. The mechanism behind it relies on compressing a cooling agent or a fluid refrigerant to regulate the temperature, making it flexible to be used as either a fridge or a freezer. Unlike other types of 12-volt coolers, compressor refrigerators can still function smoothly when inclined or leveled. A little bit old-fashioned, a thermoelectric cooler doesn’t have the capability to freeze your food or make ice. Nevertheless, a thermoelectric cooler can reduce the internal temperature to 40 degrees Fahrenheit below the ambient temperature. If you’re going for a short trip or you live in a place with a cool climate, a thermoele...

Hobbies revolve around what his children do: computer coding, basketball, track and field, ice hockey The Usual Suspects. “I love that movie. It teaches us that our perception is sometimes helping us and is sometimes blinding us” The floor-to-ceiling finished-goods racks in the new Edwards Lifesciences facility at Shannon are empty – for now. Just a year ago this high-tech pristine facility was a dated warehouse in the Shannon Free Zone. Its facade has since been given a 21st century makeover and the car park is full with vehicles from across the mid-west and beyond. Inside, Californian Nathan Tenzer – plant general manager for Edwards Lifesciences Ireland – proudly shows off the transformation that he has led with a new and growing Irish workforce since his arrival here 12 months ago. “This was an empty warehouse and here we are now with a highly advanced medical device factory,” says Tenzer. Edwards – with $3.4bn in turnover and 13,000 employees in the US – plans to employ 600 Irish workers at a major new medical devices facility. Tenzer is here to lay the groundwork. He has fitted in with ease, as comfortable discussing th...

For those of you that want the Mach 460 Door tweeters but can’t find the speakers

For those of you that want the Mach 460 Door tweeters but can’t find the speakers here is a way to make your own and I personally think this looks better and the sound of my JL’s are great. Tools Needed: Philips head screwdriver Flathead screwdriver Electrical tape Wire cutters, razorblade, scissors, teeth, whatever you find easiest. Wire splicing connectors if you want. Not a necessity. Tweeters Something to cut a clean hole into hard plastic. Get a good set of tweeters that have a resister on it that will only let high frequencies play through it so you don’t blow them. Normally cost around $50 for a decent set. I used JL Audio and I found mine on Amazon. Remove the plastic inserts. Then use a Dremel or some means to cut the appropriate size hole or if you have surface mounts cut a hole just big enough to fit the wire through. [TIP: start small to large when cutting the hole] Remove the door panel You can disconnect the hot wire on the battery if you’re worried but I didn’t.First, remove the door lock knobs. Manual windows; pop off the handle with a flat head screw driver. Electronic windows and locks; pull the whole thing out using your finger you should be able to pull it ou...
